BLOODBATH Feeding frenzy as 70 hungry sharks devour huge whale
Holiday-makers were at hand to film the feeding frenzy when the rabble of ravenous sharks ruthlessly chewed through the gigantic whale carcass. The beautiful blue water quickly turns to murky red as the whale is carved open by the carnivorous gang of sharks. Tourists on a cruise to the Kimberley operated by Eco Alrolhos – captured the rare event with cameras from the safety of their boat. But the huge humpback proved to be nothing but a snack – as the sharks bit off huge chunks of flesh before swimming away and returning for more. The whopping whale was believed to have already died when the tiger sharks tucked into their feast. Tiger sharks are responsible for a large number of fatal attacks on humans – and are known to eat anything and everything. Shark Bay where the footage was shot – has one of the largest adult populations of the predator tiger shark in the world. The savage beasts can grow up to six-and-a-half metres long and weigh 520 kilograms.
